Lakes Aquarium: Aquatic Ecosystems

The aquarium’s journey begins with a recreation of a mountain-top waterfall flowing into streams populated by salmon and other river species. Visitors can then observe otters and nocturnal riverbank creatures in dedicated exhibits.

Freshwater tanks showcase species such as trout, pike, and the elusive Arctic char, highlighting the lake’s unique ecosystem. Estuarine and coastal species, including rays and small sharks, connect the freshwater environment to the broader aquatic world. One exhibit features a school of piranhas, offering a glimpse into life in South American rivers and their predatory behavior.

The Underwater Tunnel and Diving Ducks

A central attraction is the underwater tunnel, where visitors can observe Windermere’s aquatic life from below the surface. Diving ducks, which share the tank, demonstrate their underwater foraging techniques, providing a dynamic perspective on bird and fish interactions.
