West Coast Karting for Kids
Where is it? : Solway Trading Estate, Maryport, CA15 8NF. Telephone : 01900 816472
We like it because : Noise, engine smells, speed, fun, indoor track so you can do it when it’s raining, even complete beginners can have a go.
What’s it all about? : Two indoor tracks in the same building, 300m and 520m, and differently powered Karts. The younger kids’ Karts are scaled down so safe enough for 8 year olds. We are 3 brothers from Cockermouth age 8, 16 and 17 years old so we went on the 2 different tracks and all of us thought it was brilliant. The 25 minutes you get are enough – it’s quite tiring. Food available there is pizza or snacks from a vending machine.
Also look out for : Maryport is easy to get to – about 30 minutes drive from Keswick – and it has a really special little harbour with trawlers and a shop that sells the fish off the boats right on the quay. The Maryport Aquarium on the quay is really good for such a small town.
How old do I have to be? : You can do this if you are 8 or older.
How much is it? : £15 for 8 to 15 year olds on the 300m track. Adult prices on more powerful machines on the larger track range from £20 to £65 You pay more for the more powerful Karts for grown ups but the Karts we used were quite fast enough for all of us.
