Places to Eat in Gilcrux
Two very friendly pubs serving good food are in the centre of Gilcrux village, almost facing each other, towards the narrower end of the ancient Green. Both have wood burners and beer gardens.
The Barn Bistro
Andy Peverley is a talented chef who has a certain “touch”, bringing the best out of the ingredients. As well as an excellent and varied main menu she serves delicious Sunday lunches and there are also weekly specials on the blackboard. Steak nights are every Wednesday. All dietary requirements can be catered for.
Newcastle-born Hal presides over the Bar and serves an excellent selection of draught real ales. There is also an extensive selection of malt whiskies and gins and a good wine list. The Barn Bistro has been CAMRA Good Beer Guide nominated for five consecutive years.
Pets are only permitted in the Bar until 6 pm.

The Mason’s Arms
The Mason’s Arms serves traditional “pub grub” with international influences, as well as speciality lines in pizzas and South African curries. Centuries old, with reclaimed ships’ timbers in its structure, the village pub is run by Mike and Nadine.
Yorkshire-born Mike spent many years in the Merchant Navy and has a wealth of anecdotes and jokes. Nadine is a bubbly South African. Together they lived in Australia for a number of years.
As well as a well stocked bar and real ales there is a pool table, darts, cards, dominoes, Yahtzee and many other games. Very pet friendly.
