Bootle
Bootle was granted a market charter in 1347, and was said to be the smallest market town in England.
The parish Church of St Michael and All Angels (parts of which date back to Norman times) was originally an oblong building which was extended in 1837. The tower was completed in 1882.
In the churchyard is the village cross, by Paley and Austin (1897).
