Visitor Centres in the Lake District & Cumbria

Whinlatter Visitor Centre near Keswick and Grizedale Visitor Centre near Hawkshead are both Forestry Commission visitor centres. Brockhole Visitor Centre on the shores of Windermere (lake) is managed by the Lake District Park Authority. Rheged is a privately owned visitor centre near Penrith

Whinlatter & Grizedale are particularly popular for their exciting mountain biking, walking and tree top activities while Brockhole is better known for water activities and is connected to the Windermere Lake Cruises route, although it does also offer bike hire & tree top activities. All three provide excellent adventure playgrounds free of charge, although car parking is chargeable.
 
Rheged, near Penrith, is more focused on indoor activities and has a large screen cinema. It is also the only visitor centre which charges for the children’s adventure playground, although parking here is free.
