Lakeland Wildlife Oasis
A blend of museum and zoo, the Lakeland Wildlife Oasis near Milnthorpe is a unique look-and-learn centre which blends interactive ‘hands-on’ exhibits and exotic wildlife.
The collection of animals ranges from starfish to snakes, from molluscs to monkeys, and includes endangered species such as Rodrigues fruit bats, lemurs, fossa and snow leopards and the zoo proudly cooperates with international conservation breeding programmes for many species.
The butterfly house and tropical halls are ideal venues for wet days, and the structured exhibitions take you on a fascinating journey through 3000 million years of evolution, and the development of life on earth. Butterflies, birds and bats are free to fly amongst the exotic vegetation, and other exhibits range from the colony of leaf cutter ants to potoroos and tenrecs.
Interactive animal experiences and encounters are also available at an extra charge. You can feed the meerkats, lemurs or emperor tamarins, help with environmental enrichment for the animals, be a Keeper for a Day, or even possibly stick feed the Snow Leopards. Booking essential and places are limited.
There is free parking, a café with home cooked meals, a gift shop, picnic facilities, and wheelchair access throughout.
