Townend’s Summer Garden Trail
One for the little legs at Townend over the summer holidays.
Townend is a beautiful Lakeland farmhouse with a big history. There are traditional games to play, a children’s trail inspired by George Browne’s love of his garden, and plenty of space for a picnic outside.
Collect your trail pack from the entrance to Townend. The trail is outside in the small cottage garden.
The garden trail is a free, self-led trail around our small but very beautiful garden. Pick a leaflet up from inside the house and follow the clues around the garden to find the letters on terracotta plant pots.
Once you’ve found all the letters you’ll need to unscramble them to make a word and collect your free prize. The trail follows the gravel garden paths and does include some steps.
The colourful and scented garden was originally the work of our Victorian resident, George Browne, a keen plantsman. The plants, herbs, fruit trees and shrubs here today create a pretty backdrop for the trail.
If it’s showery head to the outhouse for a selection of children’s games, including cup-and-ball, skittles, hoops, and pens for colouring in.
