The Greenwood Fair
Join us, volunteers, experts and skilled crafts people, at Sizergh for a day of festivities, demonstrations and activities for the whole family. Children can take part in woodland crafts and learn about the outdoor areas of the castle.
Many of the features that we love about our countryside are reliant on traditional crafts and woodland management skills which we are in danger of losing. If you want to learn more about woodlands and get hands-on with crafting, Greenwood fair is the perfect event to inspire.
On the day, you’ll be able to have a go at log splitting, creating witches brooms as well as whittling wood to produce Gypsy flowers. If you want to take a back seat, watch one of many demonstrations of traditional skills like wood turning, spoon making and timber milling. All these activities cover the harvesting of this sustainable resource, through to the many different end uses of wood.
Other expert led activities include a guided walk with a lichenologist looking at the tiny life, or lichens, that trees support.
Fun things for your young ones include a self-guided woodland trail and tree climbing with National Trust rangers.
