Riverdale Rejuvenation Celebration and Plaque Unveiling

Wrap up and join us for an evening of celebrations as we unveil a new commemorative plaque for Coniston’s Miniature Village – ‘Riverdale’. During the evening we will celebrate the Miniature Village’s creator, John Usher (1940 – 1993) and the dedicated group of locals – Donald and Kay Shepherd and Maureen and George Fleming – who have all voluntarily tended to this extraordinary folk artwork for over 25 years.
Celebrations will commence with short speeches from members of the Coniston Institute Committee and the ‘Riverdale’ Volunteer Group as we toast John Usher with hot spiced apple juice and unveil the new permanent plaque.
To close the celebrations, members of the New Mechanics youth club will recite their stories about ‘Riverdale’ and its miniature residents developed during a series of workshops with local writer, Amy Stretch-Parker.
Afterwards, you can browse the wares of local makers and bakers at the Coniston Christmas Fayre (between 3.00pm – 9.00pm) and visit the What We Eat? Children’s Café (between 5.00pm – 7.00pm) for some wholesome food and the launch of The New Mechanics Seasonal Cook Book which will be available to purchase on the night.
