Raku Pottery – 2 Day workshop with Chris Barnes
Raku is a really amazing process that includes firing your own pots to create unique patterns and designs on your pieces. The first day you will develop hand-building skills to create a range of pots or models. These will be dried and biscuit fired ready for you to experiment with glazes and oxides the following week.
If you are only able to attend the second Saturday, please get in touch. Dependant on numbers we may be able to prepare a series of tiles which you can decorate and fire. On the consecutive Saturday, prepare for an exciting session working with an outdoor kiln with controlled use of fire and smoke! ‘Raku’ loosely means ‘happiness in the unexpected’. The effects you can achieve can be stunning.
Chris Barnes is a renowned professional potter from the Borders who exhibits across the UK and in Germany. He has taught both adults and young people for many years alongside his own creative practice. His teaching combines hands on practical work with demonstrations and useful expert tips.
The workshop fee is £140 for 2 days. £70 for one day. Clay is charged by weight: £5 per Kg. The fee includes a tasty 2 course lunch with home baked bread and cake and refreshments throughout the day. We like to finish the day with a cup of tea and slice of cake. Eat outside or enjoy lunch by the wood burner.
This workshop will be at Cowshed Creative, based in a traditional converted Lakeland barn at Browfoot Farm. The art studio is a stunning open plan space with plenty of room to wander outside and take inspiration from the amazing Lakeland landscape and environment of the peaceful Kentmere valley. Make it a special break and stay on the farm.
