Mouthful – a Feast of Vocal Harmony

A fun-filled day of vocal harmony, featuring legendary a Capella quartet Mouthful who make innovative, exciting and original music using only the human voice as an expertly-played and finely-tuned instrument.

Be prepared to have your preconceptions about vocal music blown out of the water by powerful and exciting original performances of sophisticated and unusual arrangements.

Special guests Mouthful (Bex Mather, Dave Camlin, Katherine Zeserson and Sharon Durant) compose, arrange and mess up all kinds of musical material, and weave a captivating repertoire of songs, sounds, feelings, ideas and voices. Their sound world is by turns tender, groovy, mysterious, harmonious and celebratory, with influences from gospel, funk, jazz and global folk traditions. Be prepared to have your preconceptions about vocal music blown out of the water!

A full day’s schedule includes daytime singing workshops with Mouthful, lunchtime and tea-time ‘open showcases’ for groups of singers, and a captivating evening concert with Mouthful and Dave’s two local choirs Sing Owt! and Wild Chorus.

10am-11.30pm Workshop A
Warm-up and sing with Dave from Mouthful. A gentle start to the day with a relaxed physical and vocal warm up and some easy songs to get our voices working. All voices welcome!

12pm–1.15pm Informal open showcase
In Messel’s Bar at Rosehill for groups of singers and performers, on a theme of ‘harmony’.

1.30pm-4.30pm Workshop B
The four singers from Mouthful will co-lead a fun inclusive community singing workshop introducing you to The Mouthful Way and some of its by-roads. Taught mainly by ear in glorious harmony, no previous musical or singing experience necessary. Expect the workshop to cover such things as preparing to sing together and warming up, vocal play and invention, making grooves, finding harmonies, and developing vocal technique. Or all of the above, and more!

6pm–7.15pm More informal open showcase
In the bar

7.30pm Evening concert
Featuring Mouthful and supported by Dave’s local choirs Sing Owt! and Wild Chorus. The finale is likely to feature material learned in the workshops for a gloriously uplifting evening of vocal invention.
