Sallows, Sour Howes and Orrest Head
Walk: A visit to two “Wainwrights” and the viewpoint where Wainwright began his love affair with the Lake District Mountains.
For: Adults.
Duration: About 6-7 hours.
Distance / Ascent: 10 miles/16 km, 2300 ft/700 m.
Grading: Moderate / Strenuous.
Description: A steady climb by field and track from Windermere takes us to the ridge of Sour Howes and Sallows, where we should be rewarded with fine views of the high fells. We return by the Garburn Pass to visit another excellent viewpoint on Orrest Head.
Meeting Place: Kendal Bus Station.
Meeting Time: Friday at 9:30am for the 9:40am 555 bus, or meet at 10:10am at Windermere Bus Station (times to be updated when the spring timetable is issued).
Leader / Organisation: Bryan Hardaker / Kendal Fellwalkers.
Equipment: Walking boots and waterproofs. Packed lunches and drinks.
Dogs: No – too many sheep / stiles.
Max No People: 20.
Cost: Free but bus fares to be paid.
