Location : Rydal Park, LA22 9PN. This is half a mile north of Ambleside on the A591.
Evolving from Ambleside area sporting events and fairs dating back to the 17th century, the modern Ambleside Sports became organised in 1886, the year of Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee.
The permanent setting used today, and the current form of the Sports, was established following the end of World War II in 1946.
Today Ambleside Sports is one of the most well known and well attended countryside sports fairs in Cumbria and is one of the few places to view, among many events, the famous Cumberland and Westmorland Wrestling.
Events include :
- Fell & Guide Races
- Hound Trailing
- Cumberland & Westmmorland Wrestling
- Children’s Races
- Grass Track Cycling
- Track Races
Facilities include :
- Food Court selling both traditional and exotic foods
- Well stocked Bar with traditional ales and a Pimm’s Corner
- Trade stands with clothing, jewellery, variety of crafts, cakes, chocolates, cheese, fudge, books and much more
- Children’s rides and games, and a climbing wall
ADMISSION: Adults £6.00 (under 12s free if accompanied), Youths 12-17 £3.00, Cars £3.00
