The English Heritage Properties in Cumbria and the Lake District

English Heritage is concerned with every building and site in the country which contributes to our historic environment and our understanding of the past. It wants to help the public of today and tomorrow to appreciate and enjoy this unique heritage. It provides expert conservation advice and funding to many of the 15,400 ancient monuments, 450,000 listed buildings and 9,000 conservation areas across England. It also supports rescue archaeology where sites are threatened.

It is directly responsible for 408 historic properties representing every aspect of the history of England, expressed in earthworks, dolmen, henges, stone circles, magnificent Roman remains, medieval castles, abbeys, houses and gardens.
