Wildplay at Whinlatter Visitor Centre
Where is it? : In between Cockermouth / Keswick / Braithwaite / Lorton
Tel 017687 78469
We like it because : Really good huge adventure playground called ‘WildPlay’, loads of great walking trails through the forest, bike trails and bike hire, Osprey nest webcam, good (but very busy) cafe with outside area.
What’s it all about? : Whinlatter is a forest on a mountain near Keswick and in the middle of this there is a visitor centre with lots of outdoor activity stuff going on. It’s one of the best days out in the Lake District and a great place to burn off energy. WildPlay is awesome for up to around 15 year olds – but as you can see in the photos grown ups sneak on too sometimes.
Also look out for : Lots of special day events for Kids and families – have a look at our What’s On pages to find out more.
Tips : It can get very busy in the cafe so take snacks just in case. You can also use the bus to get here – have a look at this timetable.
How much is it? : The walking and WildPlay are free but parking is a bit expensive – like most places in the Lake District. it’s still good value for money though.
2019 Parking charges: Up to 20 mins Free / 1st Hour £2.20 / Additional time 45p per 20 mins / All Day £8.00. There is now a pay as you leave machine.
