Coniston Water is a place where you can have fun whatever you looking for, be it peace and quite or a great adventure. You can escape for a while and have a great day out on the lake.
In 2005 the passenger launches “Ruskin” and “Ransome” were converted to solar-electric power and on sunny days the solar panels can provide two-thirds of the power needed to run the boats.
There are two trips that the Coniston Launch run:
The Northern cruise lasts 50 minutes, and stops at Waterhead jetty, Torver and Brantwood, then back to Coniston jetty.
The Southern cruise lasts about 105 minutes and also calls at Torver, then Water Park (down on the east side), Lake Bank, Sunny Bank and Brantwood before returning to Coniston.
Both services include a live commentary. Winter sailings are also available but with a smaller timetable.
You can also go on special cruises that follow the fascinating route and history of Donald Campbell who died trying to break the World Water Speed Record in 1967, and a cruise that explores the lovely places used in Arthur Ransome’s hugely famous book “Swallows and Amazons”
