St Michael's Church was built in 1770 on the edge of Workington, with an upper row of windows for illuminating the galleries. It was remodelled in 1887 after a fire.

St Michael's Church has recently completed a major rebuilding program, after another fire in 1994, in which an early 15th Century tomb chest and effigies of a knight and lady were badly damaged.
