Half zoo, half museum and totally fascinating, the Lakeland Wildlife Oasis is a unique look-and-learn centre which blends interactive 'hands-on' exhibits and exotic wildlife.
The collection of animals ranges from starfish to snakes, from molluscs to monkeys, and includes creatures rarely seen in captivity such as flying foxes, chameleons and poison arrow frogs. Interactive displays include computer programs, projection microscopes, an animal rubber stamping trail and fossil rubbing.
The butterfly house and tropical halls are ideal venues for wet days, and the structured exhibitions take you on a fascinating journey through 3000 million years of evolution, and the development of life on earth. Butterflies, birds and bats are free to fly amongst the exotic vegetation, and other exhibits range from the colony of leaf cutter ants to pygmy marmosets.
Open daily, from 10.00 am (except Christmas). There is free parking, a coffee and snack bar, a gift shop, picnic facilities, and wheelchair access throughout.
