The Lakes Glass Centre is now the home of both Cumbria Crystal and Heron Glass. Heron Glass are manufacturers of high quality Studio Art glass and decorative indoor lighting. Cumbria Crystal are manufacturers of high quality full lead English Crystal, and are suppliers to many of the UK's most prestigious retailers.

You can see the glassmakers at work at both of these companies, which also have factory shops selling products at discounted prices.

Also in the Glass Centre is the Gateway to Furness Exhibition, which provides a fascinating snapshot of the history of the Furness Peninsula, its magnificent countryside, nearby seashore towns and villages and the people who have helped to carve out this beautiful area of Cumbria over the centuries.

The exhibition provides a a glimpe of Furness from its development as a tourist destination by the Furness Railway in the 19th Century, to the growth of the shipbuilding industry. You can find out about Stan Laurel, the light house monument which towers over Ulverston on Hoad Hill, the painter George Romney who was born in Dalton-in-Furness, plus Barrow-in-Furness's shipbuilding heritage and 12th Century Abbey.

There is ample free parking at the Glass Centre, which is situated a short distance from the roundabout on the A590, that has a Booths Supermarket on it. There is also the Lighthouse Restaurant - selling a variety of hot sand cold meals and snacks, and decorated using lighting made by Heron.
