The Old Brewery Arts Centre.

The Brewery Arts Centre in Kendal is a multi-purpose arts complex presenting a year round programme of theatre, music, films, lectures and exhibitions, together with a range of amateur participatory activities including art and craft workshops, Cumbria Youth Theatre, and classes.

As well as holding superb music and theatre from across the globe, the centre also hosts an array of great festivals throughout the year, such as the annual Gateway - international roots music festival, and the NEW Women's Arts International Festival - described by the Guardian newspaper as 'The Mother of All Festivals', and many many more.

With over 300,000 people walking through the door of the 9th Best Attraction in the UK, each year, the Brewery Arts Centre is now a top place on the map!

The Old Brewery Arts Centre.

From it's early days in the mid 16th century, when the building materialised as Highgate's first licensed brewery, through it's brewing heyday in the 1930's, when Vaux were supplying 30 pubs across Westmorland, its development in the 1970's as an Arts Centre, to the present day, the Brewery has consistently played a vital role in the leisure and cultural life of the area.

Housed in a 150 year old former brewery building in it's own landscaped garden, The Brewery has established a loyal local following and a strong reputation regionally, nationally and internationally since opening to the public in 1972.

Booths Terrace

As part of its commitment to the Kendal community, Booths has become a major sponsor of the Brewery Arts Centre, and has part funded The Booths Terrace, an outdoor eating and drinking area in the Brewery Grounds. As part of the agreement, the Artisan restaurant at Booths will feature a regular exhibition of local art, giving artists a further opportunity to sell their work.

There is a restaurant serving lunchtime and evening meals.

For more information see www.breweryarts.co.uk.

The Brewery Arts complex is reached through an arch under the Brewery House, now kendal's Youth Hostel.
