Set deep in the heart of the Grizedale Forest is the Grizedale Visitor Centre. This includes an exhibition, shop, tearoom, adventure playground, and is a good starting point for superb forest walks.
The shop sells a guide to the forest, showing the many miles of track suitable for walkers and cyclists, as well as many other paths for walkers.
There are a number of interesting sculptures throughout the forest. Here is the largest site-related 'Sculpture in the Forest' exhibition in the country, which in 1986 was awarded for 'the most outstanding contribution to art in a working environment'. In 1990 it won the £100,000 Prudential Award for the Arts. The project was started in 1977 by the Grizedale Society and the imaginative use of natural materials is varied and exciting.
For information about the forest see www.grizedale.org.
