Location : Ireby

Overwater Lake
Overwater, with Bassenthwaite lake in the distance.

A National Trust owned tarn, but with no public access. There is a dam at the northern outflow built during the 1920's to provide water for Wigton. Except on the steeper western side, it is flanked by gentle fields, owned by Stockdale Hall Farm. In the distance are the Skiddaw fells. The water supports a wide range of plants, including white and yellow lillies. The road from Keswick, via Orthwaite passes close by, but the best viewpoint is from the road to Uldale.
