Simon Jenkins, born in 1943 has worked on Country Life magazine, The Times Educational Supplement, the Evening Standard, the Sunday Times and the Economist. He was deputy chairman of English Heritage (1985-90), a member of the Millennium Commission, and chairs the Buildings Book Trust, sponsors of Pevsner's Buildings of England guides.
