Dating from 1868, Grasmere Sports has run every year except during the periods of the First and Second World Wars. It has its origin in the annual Grasmere Sheep Fairs of the mid 19th Century, then very much a notable local community event on the annual calendar.
Today Grasmere Sports welcomes visitors and locals alike and one of the main draws is the famous Cumberland and Westmorland Wrestling.
Events include Cumberland Wrestling, Fell Running, Hound Trails, Flat Races, Long Leap and Dog Shows.
Opening the Grasmere Sports in 2019 will be The Adamson Band. Also presenting a marching display at various times throughout the day.
Also featuring Dangerous Steve’s Fire and Chainsaw juggling, Giant Unicycle, Ladder Balancing and Blindfold Motorcycle riding in an hilarious and dynamic act full of sensational stunts. It’s a real crowd pleaser!
Facilities are widespread with a good selection of refreshments, exhibitions and trade stands.
