David Hall has lived on the west coast side of the Lake District all his life. For the last twelve years or so he has made many walks - initially at low level, and usually around the Keswick or Ennerdale areas, photographing and documenting these for his own pleasure.

There are now very few places in the Lake District that he hasn’t been to, and after suggestions from friends, he decided to make his vast collection of pictures available as a website - www.davidhalllakedistrictwalks.co.uk. At June 2006 the site had 290 walks, 4771 pictures and 792 maps.

You can access the walks by date, or by location, and each consists of a series of photos with descriptions, a map of the walk, with information about the length of the walk, its duration, amount of ascent, where to park, and other related walks. There is a section of ordnance survey maps for online navigating around the area.

A feature I like is the photo album, with sequences of pictures from various walks. This can give you some inspiration to look at places you may not know – and maybe inspire you to go or a walk to somewhere that you may not has considered. It’s also excellent for those who can’t do the walks themselves, but are keen to experience them. There are also separate photo album pages for lakes, tarns, animals, bridges and for buildings - churches, rural houses, farm buildings, ruins, and more.

Finally there is a section on safety on the fells – with guidance about clothing, food, weather, and taking children with you.

VisitCumbria has photographs on this website, taken by David Hall from this website, which are on the pages listed below.
