Wordsworth Memorial – Cockermouth
Location : Cockermouth – Grid Ref: NY 118306
Opposite Wordsworth House is this bronze bust of the poet, unveiled on 7 April 1970, the bicentenery of William‘s birth, by his great-great-grandson.
As part of the same celebrations, 27000 daffodils were planted on open spaces and approaches to the town.
A drinking fountain with a bronze figure was erected in 1896 in Harris Park by Canon Rawnsley in memory of Dorothy and William Wordsworth. It was the focus of a daffodil ceremony held on the poet’s bicentenery in 1970.
Recently it was stolen, then recovered and placed near William’s statue.
