The Roman Catholic Church of Holy Trinity and St George was built between 1835 and 1837, to replace a house in
Stramongate that had been used as a Catholic chapel. The church was opened in 1837 and was designed by local architect
George Webster in a neo-Gothic style.
The statue of St George slaying the dragon over the door way was designed and built by Thomas Duckett, a wood
carver under the employment of George and Francis Webster. There are an additional two pieces of work by Thomas
Duckett inside the church - Ecce homo on the left and St George on the right as you enter.
