Whinlatter Visitor Centre for Kids

Where is it? : In between Cockermouth / Keswick / Braithwaite / Lorton
Tel 017687 78469
We like it because :  Really good huge adventure playground called ‘WildPlay’, loads of great walking trails through the forest, bike trails and bike hire, Osprey nest webcam, good (but very busy) cafe with outside area.  We think it’s one of the very best days out in the North Lakes.
What’s it all about? :  Whinlatter is a forest in the hills near Keswick and in the middle of this there is a visitor centre with lots of outdoor activity stuff going on.  We’ve been going for years and everyone is always having a good time.   WildPlay is awesome for up to around 12 year olds – but as you can see in the photos grown ups sneak on too sometimes.
Also look out for : Lots of special day events for Kids and families – have a look at our What’s On pages to find out more.
Tips :  It can get very busy in the cafe so take snacks just in case.  You can also use the bus to get here – have a look at this timetable.
How much is it? :  Most of the stuff is free but parking is £1.60 for an hour, £3.20 for 2 hours, £5.30 for 4 hours or £6.90 all day.  You pay extra for bike hire.
