At Lakeside Station, Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway

Hard working steam trains haul trains on this steep railway. The coaches are comfortable so the oldies won’t complain. You go slow enough for you to be able to spot loads of interesting things as you go past the lake and river in the Leven Valley but fast enough not to be boring. Trains run from April through to the end of October.

Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway

Once part of the national rail network, the only part left now is the 3.5 miles from Haverthwaite, through Newby Bridge to the end station at Lakeside.

The Lakeside Station is at the Lakeside Pier, at the southern end of Windermere, where you can arrive by boat from Waterhead or Bowness.

There is lots of parking for Mum & Dad.  The Aquarium of the Lakes is also at Lakeside Station, and there is a restaurant on the Pier with brilliant views of Windermere.
