All the stations on the Settle-Carlisle except Culgaith were designed by John Holloway Sanders, and is of the style known as 'Derby Gothic'. This was a Midland Railway house style used at various places on their network.
Two leaflets of Walks from the Settle-Carlisle Railway are available (60p each) describe with maps, walks from each of the stations on the route, and listing information about any visitor attractions within walking distance. Local buses often run from the stations to other nearby places of interest.
Guided walks operate throughout the year, with walks on all weekends and some Wednesdays. Walks leave and return from stations on the line and are free to train users.
The trains now stop at the following stations, most in Cumbria, the rest in North Yorkshire:

In summer 1999 seven of the stations have had work done on them - including resurfacing, fitting of tactile pavings, and the fitting of new period lighting exactly matching the style of their former Midland Railway glory. Major investment by Railtrack in track renewal is also being carried out.
