Wetheral - Holy Trinity Church.

Holy Trinity Church at Wetheral is an early 16th Century church, with an octagonal tower, in a commanding position overlooking the River Eden. It is said that the Church was formerly dedicated to St Constantine, the only church in England with that dedication.

The doorway is probably of 1790, when the tower was built, and the upper part belongs to the restoration of 1882. The chancel was largely rebuilt by Withers in 1872, but on the South side are two original inscriptions for Prior William Thornton of Wetheral Priory and his successor. In 1791 a mausoleum for the Howard Family was added, built in the Gothic style.

There are several stained glass windows - the East window of the Ascension by Cox, Sons and Buckley (1886). Several other windows are by Heaton, Butler and Bayne. There are monuments in the Church including a white marble one of Lady Maria Howard at the age of 23, 1789, by Nollekens. It is one of his major works.

Several members of the Howard family, from nearby Corby Castle (just across the River) are buried in the Church.
