Originally built as the town hall in 1717, but much altered at various dates since. Recently the Tourist Information Centre has been based in the upper floor. In front of the building is the Market Cross (1682), an ionic column with a lion and a sundial at the top. The TIC provides information on what to see and do, entertainments and events, places of interest, travel and transport, and where to stay. It has information on local accommodation, and provides a free local booking service for personal callers.
