Carlisle Castle is home to the Border Regiment Museum which relates the history of Cumbria's County Infantry Regiment, the Border Regiment and the King's Own Royal Border Regiment and local Militia.
Displays comprise uniforms, weapons, equipment, medals (including four VCs), silver, pictures, memorabilia, dioramas, video presentations and anti-tank guns. Outside is a 25-Pounder Field Gun of 1940 and a Ferret Scout Car.
Within the Castle walls are the barrack and other military buildings dating from the 19th century. The museum has a shop with many souvenirs and publications.
