Hayes Garden Centre
Location : Ambleside

At the heart of English Lakeland, this is a very pleasant all weather attraction. Its superb landscaped gardens have an impressive display of trees, plants and shrubs. From seasoned gardeners to the less green fingered, there’s something here for everyone and the quality of the stock is generally excellent. In the crystal palace there are 4000 square feet of Amazonian-like plant life, exotic bedding plants, climbing and hanging plants and miniature Bonsai trees.

The family run business, started 200 years ago, has been involved in the design and landscaping of some of the most illustrious gardens in the Lake District. The Dutch borders and rockery at the National Trust owned Sizergh Castle, were created by Mr TR Hayes in 1925.
There is a fascinating and colourful display of tropical fish in the Pets and Aquatic Centre , and one of the country’s largest displays of garden furniture. Indoors there is a very extensive gift and book shop, and the indoor and outdoor Terrace Cafe serves several menus throughout the day to 6pm except Sundays when it closes at 5pm. Parking is free at Hayes only while you are on the property.
